Long Lost Longshot

This past Sunday my brother and I attended the Buffalo Comicon, sponsored by Queen City Bookstore, and it was a lot of fun as always. This year’s event was particularly rewarding as I was able to score all six issues of the original Longshot miniseries from Marvel Comics. Not only that, but I won a large Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith cardboard store display in the raffle! (more…)

Introducing… Lord Vader

I just found this four-page preview of Star Wars: Republic #78 linked from a thread at Rebelscum.com. We see the Emperor introduce his new protegĂ©, who proceeds to set the tone for his stern management style ;-) .. I’m not a collector of Star Wars comics, oddly enough, but I have read some issues from different series’ and they were all really good. I’m looking forward to The Purge, a 32-page one-shot that will tell us what Obi-Wan meant when he said that Vader helped the Empire the hunt down and destroy the Jedi knights.

Well gang, an historic event is underway–a thorough cleaning of my apartment. I’ve already tackled the major “filth” problems (kitchen and bathroom sinks, toilet, etc.), but now it’s on to the much more daunting task–”clutter”. I have so much stuff in this apartment–boxes, papers, old broken down computers and appliances–that just need to go. As Captain Picard once said: The line must be drawn heah! (more…)

Youth Reclaimed

As I examined pictures of the upcoming Star Wars “Saga Collection” action figures and looked over the Diamond shipping lists, I felt a surge of pure, unmitigated joy. Comic books and toys are a means of reclaiming youth, and I’m glad I discovered them again before it was too late. (more…)
